‘YouTube’ prank robbery goes wrong, one person dead after being shot

A 20-year-old man is dead after he and some of his friends decided to run upon a group of people in a failed ‘prank robbery.’

According to the Tennessean, Timothy Wilks and his friends decided to film a prank robbery where they ran up to a group of people while holding butcher knives and demand their wallets.

This happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening outside a family-friendly trampoline play area.

Wilks and his friends committed to the prank, but one of the people in the group they were trying to scare was armed and ready.

David Starnes Jr. has admitted to police that he shot Wilks out of self-defense for himself and others. He said he was unaware of the prank and only saw a group of people with knives run at them, forcing him to pull aim with his gun.

Starnes has not been charged, though the investigation is ongoing.
