A Miami, Florida police officer and a woman were injured in a crash on Friday morning after the woman stole a police car, authorities said.
According to Local 10, officers were responding to reports of a woman running in traffic. When they arrived at the scene, the woman was on top of a building and was threatening to jump.
An officer was able to talk her down. Once she got on the ground, she ran to a police cruiser, hopped in the driver’s seat and drove off.
As the woman was driving away, she crashed into another police vehicle, injuring the officer driving the car. After the crash, the woman tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by the police.
“I was on the sidewalk when I see the lady jumps into the police vehicle and the cop tried to drag her out, but by the time he tried she booked it, and the other cop was turning in and she just head on collided right into him,” a postal carrier, identified as Chris, said.
Both police vehicles involved in the accident were badly damaged, with their front bumpers hanging on the floor and their front hoods badly smashed.
According to detective Frederica Burden of the Miami Police Department, the officer involved in the crash was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for observation with a few cuts and bruises. The woman suffered more serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
The Miami Police Department hasn’t released the woman’s name or filed any charges against her.
