A North Carolina woman is being charged with attempted capital murder after she shot and wounded a state trooper late Tuesday night.

The Virginia State Police report that Senior Trooper C.A. Putnam was wounded after he initiated a traffic stop when he spotted 23-year-old Karisa Daniels going well over the speed limit.

Daniels initially slowed down to pull over but sped away, resulting in a chase that eventually led to a dead-end road. When Daniels tried to escape, the trooper used his vehicle to disable her car.

When Daniels attempted to flee on foot, Putnam took chase, resulting in Daniels shooting him in the arm before fleeing into a nearby residential backyard.

Not long after, Daniels was found and told to drop her weapon by a Henrico County Officer. She complied and was taken into custody and is sitting in the Henrico County Jail.

Putnam was quickly treated by another officer at the scene and taken to the hospital.

According to the Virginia State Police’s Facebook Page, no shots were fired by law enforcement.
