The association representing sergeants and lieutenants of the Racine County Sheriff’s Office is now under investigation after money was found missing.
The labor group, which does not represent rank-and-file sheriff’s deputies, is made up of command staff.
According to the Lake Geneva Regional News, the Sheriff’s Office has turned it over to the Kenosha Sheriff’s Office to complete an independent investigation.
Sheriff Schmaling released a statement saying, “I have the utmost confidence that the Kenosha County Sheriff’s investigation will uncover the truth. Whatever that might be, it will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.”
The sheriff did not say how many of his deputies are under investigation, or have been suspended pending the outcome.
