A small Mississippi Police Department says it intends to enforce the Governor’s recent COVID-19 mandate, and it’s grabbed the attention of thousands of commenters claiming the police are overstepping.

According to WLBT, the post made Tuesday has had thousands of comments and most of them negative.

In the post, the department states it intends to begin writing tickets to offenders of the mandate, and will enforce the 11 p.m. curfew.

The Governor pushed the state into Phase 2 restrictions just before Thanksgiving, and the Governor says they will likely extend beyond Christmas.

Phase 2 installs a mask mandate and reduced the occupancy of all non-essential businesses to 50% or less.

The Department states in the post, “if you scheduled events please start making provisions to cancel them if they are going to be on the inside. Please don’t try and figure out how you can get around it because the fine will take majority of your profit.”
