A Virginia police officer has been suspected after he allegedly turned over a suspected illegal immigrant to ICE officials after a traffic accident in September.
According to Fox News, Fairfax County Police say the officer was sent to a car accident on September 21st. During the accident, the officer discovered the one driver did not have a state driver’s license and when he ran the man’s name found he had a warrant out for failure to appear for a deportation hearing.
The officer then contacted ICE and a nearby agent arrived to take the man into custody.
That decision violated a 2007 department policy that prohibits officers from contacting federal agents after confirming a person’s immigration status.
The officer, who has been with the department for a few years, will be subjected to additional training before being put back on patrol.
