UPDATE: The woman in the Facebook video fighting with an officer had been removed by bouncers from the York, PA club and she had repeatedly tried to re-enter.
When the officer involved attempted to arrest her she kicked him and “wrapped her hands around his neck,” according to the York Daily Record.
Earlier: York police are investigating an incident during an arrest involving an officer and a woman, part of which is depicted in a 10-second Facebook video.
The altercation captured on video involves Melissa Dyann Penn and an unnamed York police officer after her involvement at a fight early Monday at Pandora’s Box on the 400 block of East Market Street in the city. The video had been viewed around 22,000 times at the time of this post.
The video begins with the officer and Penn wrestling on the ground. The officer gains the upper hand and begins punching the woman before turning on her back and grabbing her arm.
York police use body cameras and issued the following statement in response to the video being disseminated on Facebook:
“This video is a very short few seconds of what occurred and we have video from multiple sources we are looking at. We would ask that people not draw conclusions regarding a small portion of the incident and we hope to release more video in the future. Every York police officer is expected to treat our citizens with respect and professionalism but if physical force is used against our officers they will respond according to our policies and the laws of the Commonwealth.”
