A Louisville Metro Police officer had to put his new skills to the test after a car accident resulted in a man’s leg being severed.
It all began when 1st Division Officer Bianca Chambers was struck in a vehicle while writing an accident report, destroying the back end of her vehicle.
Arriving on scene and knowing that tourniquets would be needed to stop a man from bleeding to death, Officer Thomas Franklin pulled a tourniquet off of his belt and applied it to a victim’s leg, which had been separated from itself in the accident.
For both Chambers and Franklin, the incident would be a test of their grit and skills- particularly Franklin, who had only recently been schooled and tested in proper tourniquet usage.
Fortunately, quick thinking and training resulted in lives being saved that day.
