An early morning traffic stop in Georgia nearly turned deadly for one officer after he was dragged down the road by an impaired driver.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Brookhaven Police Officer and Leo Affairs contributor Tom Lefever came upon a driver who had apparently fallen asleep while waiting at an intersection.

According to WSBTV, the driver -Tyrone Marvail Chapman- provided the officer with a fake name after Lefever woke him up.

Suddenly, Chapman took off, dragging Lefever with him.

Realizing he would be mangled, Lefever lifted his legs up as Chapman sped up, balling up his body.

“I looked at the driver as we continued to pick up speed and we made eye contact. I said, ‘You’re going to kill me’ as I tried to climb in the window,” Lefever wrote in his official report. “Mr. Chapman then replied, ‘I don’t want to kill you’ and slammed on the (brakes).”

While Officer Lefever was “scraped up a little bit” in the incident, nobody was seriously injured.

BPD Chief Gary Yandura says Chapman faces a mix of misdemeanor and felony charges.
