The father of a murdered 18-year old woman leapt across a table in pursuit of her killer during a court sentencing Thursday.
Responsible for the murder of Shirellda Terry -who along with three other women were killed and wrapped in garbage bags in the East Cleveland area in 2013- serial murderer Michael Madison was attacked by Van Terry, Shirellda’s father.
Terry’s leap for personal justice came about after he began making his victim impact statement. As Terry looked back at a remorseless Madison, he suddenly charged him, leaping over a large table at great speed. Authorities grabbed and held Van back, preventing him from harming Madison and escorting him from the courtroom.
“The man reached a breaking point obviously and the defendant was taunting him. He killed his daughter. This is the type of thing Mr. Madison finds amusing,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty. “Michael Madison is a gutless coward.”
According to News Net 5, Madison’s attorneys attempted to spare his life by suggesting that his behavior stemmed from psychological damage caused by an abusive childhood.
Madison was recommended the death penalty by a jury of his peers for 14 counts, including aggravated murder, kidnapping, rape, and abuse of a corpse.
The courts have not yet decided whether or not to charge Terry.
