Verbal altercation turns physical before Alabama triple shooting

One man was killed and two others injured Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at a home in the 2300 block of 5th Street N.W.

Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a Friday-night shooting that also injured two others.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cornelius C. Blake. He was 42 and lived in Center Point.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded at 7:55 p.m. to the 2300 block of Fifth Street N.W. on a report of shots fired. They arrived to find a shooting had taken place inside a residence, said Sgt. Joni Money.

Blake was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:26 p.m.

A second victim was transported from the scene by Center Point Fire and Rescue to UAB Hospital. A third victim showed up at the Center Point Fire and Rescue station in Grayson Valley and was taken from there to UAB Hospital.

Both surviving victims are also male.

Money said according to reports, two of the males were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical prior to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been announced.
