A United States Park Police officer was attacked by a raccoon in Rock Creek Park on Thursday. During the struggle with the animal, the officer accidentally shot himself in the foot.
The raccoon was killed by another officer who there and the wounded officer was airlifted to a Washington D.C. hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
People in the area were being warned to stay away from the dead raccoon, stating it was rabid, according to the Washington Post.
