US Attorney’s office paralegal arrested for providing surveillance intel to cartel

A Texas paralegal specialist working out of the US Attorney’s Office in San Antonio has been arrested after she was accused of assisting the Cartel del Noreste.

Jennifer Loya faces several federal charges and stands accused of using electronic surveillance in order to obtain information for the cartel.

Loya has familial ties to the cartel, as her sister is married to an associate of Israel Fernandez-Vasquez, a prominent cartel leader who was deported two years ago.

According to News4SA, Loya’s sister also frequently participates in cartel operations, moving drug money and other ill-gotten means back and forth across the border.

Loya’s participation in cartel operations became a point of suspicion after some members began showing signs that they had been warned of upcoming raids the night before they took place.

The former paralegal has been charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing meth, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
