UPDATE 6/14 10:30 a.m. EST:
A bulletin has been sent to all law enforcement in the state of Mississippi and Memphis area to be alert for possible attacks after a street gang, called the “Gangster Disciples,” told their members to kill officers in retribution for the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Brandon Webber.
According to WLBT, the call for violence began on Wednesday night when Webber’s father posted a Facebook live video saying he would “do” police officers. He also went on to encourage people to ‘even the score’ after the death of his son.
It’s believed the gang is specifically targeting U.S. Marshals. Agents are being told to cover their agency apparel while they are out.
Webber was fatally shot after he tried to run over the federal agents with his vehicle and flashed a gun at them during his arrest.
The “Gangster Disciples” are one of the three largest street gangs in Mississippi.
Several police officers are recovering after a dangerous night in Memphis that saw people riot in the streets after a man was killed by a federal agent.
According to NBC News, federal officials killed a wanted man they were attempting to arrest. The man, who hasn’t been identified, had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest.
During the officer-involved shooting, the suspect tried to ram his car into law enforcement vehicles and then pulled a weapon on the U.S. Marshals.
The officers responded to the threat with deadly force.
Later that evening, Memphis police were called in for crowd control. Officers were soon staring down a mob throwing rocks and other objects at them.
Roughly 25 officers were injured during the riot, though most were minor.
Three people were arrested.
The U.S. Marshals are now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
