A metro police officer in Nashville was wounded during a shootout with a woman in the parking lot of a local Dollar General store, according to authorities.

Josh Baker, a 14-year-veteran of the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, was rushed to the hospital following a shooting that took place at 0930 hours on Friday morning.

Baker was conducting a traffic stop on vehicle registered to an individual with half-a-dozen outstanding drug warrants.

“Officer Baker approached the vehicle, learned that the owner of the car -the person with the outstanding warrants- was not the person driving and the situation devolved from there into a shootout,” Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron said during a press conference.

The vehicle’s driver, Nika Holbert, was killed during the exchange of gunfire.

According to Fox News, Baker had to undergo surgery at a local hospital after being struck in the torso.

Holbert attempted to drive off but eventually crashed a short distance away. She was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is under way.
