A shooting outside of the Fashion Place mall in Utah allegedly involved two groups of rival gang members, according to the Murray Police Department.
The investigators working the case claim that Jorge Luis Crecencio-Gonzalez and Jesus Joshua “Psycho” Payan-Mendoza were arrested for investigation of two counts of attempted aggravated murder and two counts of discharge of a firearm.
According to the Deseret News, the two men are members of the Florencia 13 gang, and two of about a dozen people involved in the altercation, with five in one gang and seven in the other.
“Everybody involved in the shooting was a member of one or the other gang. There were no bystanders that were struck,” MPD Officer Kenny Bass.
The mall shooting began earlier this month took place after an altercation in the mall led to gunshots, with Crecencio-Gonzalez fleeing in a vehicle.
Two individuals -a man and a woman- were injured and sent to the hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds.
Bass praised law enforcement for their quick response and smart deployment into such a heavily-populated establishment.
“I think they handled it extremely well. It was extremely fast…How quick they jumped in and tried to assist in the investigation,” he said.
The incident remains under investigation.
