The student government at the taxpayer-funded University of Wisconsin-Madison is resolute in its demands that “community control” over the campus police force must be taken because of “implicit bias.”
To make its point, the student government cites evidence of “implicit bias,” in a case from April 2016 when campus cops arrested a black student in class for a wave of graffiti.
The Daily Caller reports student, Denzel McDonald — who goes by the name “King Shabazz” — spray-painted “F#$% THE POLICE,” “DEATH TO PIGZ” and several similar instances of hate speach on buildings all over campus for half a year. Some of the spray painting contained the byline, “ GOD.”
According to the Daily Caller McDonald’s graffiti damage comes at an estimated repair cost of $4,000.
Living up to an entitled viewpoint profile, where free speech is only tolerable when it leans toward the social narrative of the day, one of McDonald’s artistic rants allegedly threatened to kill a witness if the witness called police.
The university student government’s resolution demands campus police chief, Kristen Roman, “shall fully cooperate” with a newly-created accountability board arguing the board will have power over “the hiring and firing of officers that discriminate” and over “policies and trainings of implicit bias,” reports Campus Reform.
Despite McDonald’s clearly evident criminal behavior, the student council resolution, entitled “UWPD Accountability and Community Control of the Police,” declares the University of Wisconsin has seen “many incidents where students of color and historically marginalized communities are treated differently by police officers.” Also “current policing practices” “demonstrate a lack of voices for communities of color” and Black Lives Matter activists have called for “community control of the police,” reports the Daily Caller.
