Milwaukee children throwing snowballs at cars were startled to receive a hail of gunfire in response, according to local police.

The shooting took place on Saturday, after a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy sustained non-life threatening injuries after a motorist opened fire.

Based on early findings, police believe both of the victims were part of a larger group of minors who happened tossing snowballs at passing vehicles.

Authorities provided first aid and both children were rushed to the hospital.

According to CBS News, police are looking to the public to help provide any information available to track down the shooter.

The vehicle in question was identified as a white Toyota.
