Two Chicago Police officers are reported to have been shot in an “ambush,” CPD officials report.
The two officers were wounded early Friday and were rushed to local medical centers.
At the time of the incident, the lawmen were waiting in line at a restaurant. Their attacker opened fire after officers discovered he had a weapon on him.
“The offender had ordered his food and was in line in front of the officer,” CPD Superintendent David Brown said. “The offender reached in his pocket to pay for his order, a gun fell out of the offender’s waistband.”
“The officer noticed the gun falling out, but before they could take action, the offender grabbed the gun, picked it up and began immediately shooting at the officers,” Brown added.
According to NBC Chicago, the suspect was later captured and taken into police custody.
No identities have been released.
