Bailey also stated several civilians were also taken to the hospital and are in stable condition as well.

One of the slain baliffs was a Benton Township police officer and the other was a retired state trooper, according to The Detroit Free Press.

It’s not clear exactly how the shooter acquired the gun nor what the motive was at this point.

EARLIER: It’s being reported by several local media outlets that up to four people have been shot, including two baliffs, at the Berrien County Courthouse in Michigan.  Reports indicate that one civilian and the shooter are the other two people who have been shot.  It’s not yet known if this is related to anti-police protests that are ongoing around the country.

The shooting comes after several days of unrest in several US cities following the murder of five police officers in Dallas who were ambushed during an anti-police protest.

CNN is reporting that one police officer has been shot outside the courthouse.

Governor Rick Snyder just tweeted that incident is over and the scene has been secured.

We will update the story as more information becomes available.
