A South Carolina Trooper is in good condition after being shot by a man who attempted to speed away from a traffic stop.
According to WSOC-TV, York County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Wise tried to stop a man for a seatbelt violation on Sunday night.
The driver, identified as Willie Wright, then sped up and led the trooper on a car chase.
Eventually, both drivers reached the end of a dead end road.
With no place to go, Wright stepped out of his vehicle and fired multiple rounds at Trooper Wise.
Wise was hit but returned fire with one bullet striking Wright.
Both men were taken to a local hospital. Both are expected to recover.
The York County Sheriff says body armor saved Trooper Wise’s life.
