A New York State Trooper in Long Island was dragged and injured by a driver after attempting to make a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place at 3PM and was captured on cellphone video as the situation unfolded.
The incident began when the trooper attempted to place the driver under arrest, resulting in a scuffle that led to the trooper being dragged by the offender’s vehicle before the car careened into a median.
“He floored this car, you know the cruiser was right behind the suspect’s car, and he literally just floored it with the cop hanging out, you literally see the cop’s legs hanging out outside the vehicle,” a witness said.
Battered and bloodied, the trooper fought the man before finally subduing him as motorists stopped and assisted the trooper.
“A couple Good Samaritans hopped out of their vehicles, when the officer got the guy, the suspect, out of the car, and as he tried to get him restrained, two Good Samaritans came out of their car and held the guy down,” the witness said.
According to ABC7, the trooper was sent to the hospital for head injuries.
The suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault upon a police officer, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
