Mississippi Highway Patrol is searching for a driver who dragged a state trooper on the highway, after being stopped.

An MHP trooper tried to pull over a driver along Hwy. 18 on Sunday, but when he reached in to get the man’s ID, the driver took off– dragging the trooper 100 yards down the road.

The trooper did not suffer any life threatening injuries. A police pursuit followed, which involved multiple agencies, including MS Bureau of Narcotics. According to MS News Now, the trooper smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The chase took police and state troopers through various Jackson neighborhoods, but it ended on Horton Avenue, where the suspected ditched his car.

“We are trying to figure out if this is his actual address or if it’s just a house that they might normally have narcotics in or whatever,” said MHP Trooper Eric Henry.

The suspect -who’s described by authorities as dangerous- slammed into several MBN vehicles as he fled from police. DEA is also involved in the case and agents are said to be working closely with state and local officials to track down the suspect.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
