A Lieutenant of Michigan’s Port Huron Police Department was shot and killed while off-duty Friday morning, one of three people shot in Clyde Township.
The shootings took place at an apartment shortly before 1AM, where the unnamed lieutenant -reported to be in his early 40s- was visiting a 29-year-old woman.
During his visit, the woman’s estranged husband burst in and attacked the couple, shooting them.
The next-door neighbor then emerged and engaged the shooter, starting a brief gunfight that resulted in him sustaining a leg wound.
According to the Times Herald, the 30-year-old shooter was not injured and fled the scene, though he was picked up by police shortly after. He is currently in the St. Clair County Jail.
The lieutenant is the only reported fatality of the incident. The woman and her neighbor were transported to the hospital.
Locals report seeing a suspicious character hanging around the apartment shortly after the woman moved in, as well as someone ringing doorbells late at night. She had been at the residence for less than a month and is reported to be an employee of Port Huron.
