Three police officers in California are on paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting.

The incident, which took place on March 12 in Oxnard, California, is currently under investigation and body cam footage has been released to the public.

Officers with Oxford Police were conducting a traffic stop when a man ran up to them with a steel pipe.

The individual was pursuing another man, repeatedly shouting “I hate you.”

Two of the officers initially fired their tasers, while a third drew his sidearm. After lawfully and repeatedly ordering the man to drop his weapon, the third officer opened fire after the assailant refused.

The assailant, identified as Adam Barcenas, was taken to the hospital and later succumbed to his wounds.

Barcenas had a lengthy criminal history and was even responsible for the death of a 71-year-old woman in 2019, who succumbed to blunt force trauma eight days after the attack by Barcenas.

On the same day of the attack, KVTA reported, Barcenas also attacked an 80-year-old man and his wife.

Ventura County refused to charge him with the murder of the 71-year-old, claiming there was not enough conclusive evidence that the blunt force trauma caused by Barcenas was the sole reason she died.

Barcenas pleaded no contest to two counts of felony elder abuse and completed half of a six-year prison sentence before being paroled last year.

According to ABC 7, all three officers involved in the March shooting have been placed on administrative leave, standard procedure during a use of force investigation.
