A mass shooting outside a grocery store in southern Arkansas on Friday killed three people and wounded at least 11 others, including two police officers.

The shooting unfolded shortly after 11:30 a.m. local time, at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce.

The officers who were shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Arkansas Department of Public Safety Director Mike Hagar said at a Friday news conference. The conditions of the other wounded victims ranged from “not life-threatening to extremely critical.”

The lone gunman, whose name has not been released, was also critically injured after exchanging gunfire with police. He was taken into custody, Hagar said. He added there was no further threat to the community.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined, and an investigation is ongoing.

Videos and images circulating on social media appear to show a gunman holding a rifle, walking slowly and firing shots from a parking lot.

In one of the videos, recorded from inside a neighboring store, one man says “he tried to shoot the police.”

In another video filmed from a nearby gas station, 11 shots can be heard within 39 seconds. At least one person can be seen lying in the parking lot.

Images from reporters on the scene showed the grocery store’s windows covered in bullet holes.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote on social media she had been briefed on the“tragic shooting in Fordyce” and thanked first responders “for their quick and heroic action to save lives.”

Fordyce, a city of about 3,300 people, is located approximately 70 miles south of Little Rock.
