A sheriff’s dept in southeast Texas is adding some state-of-the-art technology to its fleet, making it the only agency in the country with its own wireless network.

Several tech giants, including Sierra Wireless, have come to Brazos County to test out their latest first responder technology.

The company has provided the sheriff’s office with a large router, which allows deputies to “seamlessly connect to the fastest network so they can receive and send information almost instantly.”

This technology allows them to help deputies on scene more quickly and essentially turns their patrol cars into mobile offices, KBTX reported.

Lt. Thomas Randall says the new technology allows him to monitor what’s going on in the field without have to actually drive the 20 or 30 minutes to get there. He says he can see what’s going on live ‘from his desk.’

“With the exception of a few things, we can process most of a crime scene from a patrol car,” said Deputy Sheriff Josh Hearen.

Hearan plans to share his knowledge about the new products with other officers at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference this weekend.
