Refugio County Sheriff Raul “Pinky” Gonzales says he has illegal immigrants crossing into his county on a weekly basis and has become his new normal.
The sheriff detailed how the immigration issue has taken a toll on his office to KIIITV.
Sheriff Gonzales says on Monday his deputies found 11 immigrants in the back of an 18-wheeler.
He points out his biggest concern is the safety of his deputies.
Sheriff Gonzales does say many of the immigrants they find are sex slaves and victims of trafficking and don’t pose a violent threat.
The article comes out as Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen spoke with the House Homeland Security Committee about the immigration issues the country is facing.
Nielsen confirmed that there is a national emergency that supports President Donald Trump’s declaration.
