A police chief from Texas, who was vacationing in the Big Apple, couldn’t seem to get away from all the crime fighting action he left behind at home.
What was supposed to be a peaceful getaway filled with shows and sightseeing in NYC, turned quickly into what felt like a usual shift on the job.
It all started when a man stole a bottle of cologne from Abercrombie and Fitch. The store security officer chased after him– up Fifth Avenue toward Central Park. The two started fighting in front of the Plaza Hotel and that’s where Sean Ford, chief of the Sunset Valley Police Dept., says he encountered the two men.
He says the scuffle became more violent when they both fell to the ground and continued fighting. Ford told NBC4, he jumped in to break up the fight, called 911 and held the suspect against the wall until NYPD arrived.
“The officers that responded were amazing, as usual. Just what we would expect and what the rest of the nation looks up to,” Ford said.
The gracious Texan says he probably would not have chosen to do it this way, but was glad he got to meet the great guys over at NYPD. Ford says he feels a little more like a New Yorker now that he’s had this experience.
The 26-year-old shoplifter was taken to the Midtown North precinct stationhouse on a larceny charge- the local NBC station reported.
