The Newton Police Chief is recovering after being shot in the chest while assisting his constable during an eviction on Saturday.

According to 12 News Now, Chief William Jackson and Sheriff Roberty Burbey were shot at by a man and woman who refused to cooperate with the eviction.

Chief Jackson was struck in the back by one of the bullets, but he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. He did suffer some injuries, but nothing life-threatening.

The shooting resulted in a standoff, until the two people living inside the home finally gave up to police. Both are both expected to be charged with attempted capital murder as it’s unclear whether the man or woman fired the bullets.
