Texas officer killed after being “waved down,” ambushed by suspect

A Mission, Texas police officer was killed in the line of duty after he was waved down by a man saying there was a suspect with a weapon in the area.

According to ABC News, the officer was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An investigation is underway.

Despite an initial report saying the suspect was in custody, police later retracted that report saying the gunman was instead dead.

The police department has not released the identity of the officer or the suspect yet.

The police chief has scheduled a Friday morning press conference to go over more details.

Late Thursday night, LEOs from other local departments lined up to escort the body of the slain officer to the hospital.
