Suspect who attacked SEPTA officer dies after being tasered


Oct. 26–A man who assaulted a SEPTA police officer at a Market-Frankford El station in Kensington died Monday after the officer subdued him with a Taser stun gun.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. as the officer was closing the gates at the Huntingdon station.

Police said the man attacked the male officer for reasons not immediately known and they got into a struggle, during which the cop fired his Taser to stop the alleged assailant.

The man died later a hospital. The officer was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the man’s cause of death.

As is routine for deaths in police custody, the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating.

The Huntington Station opened for service on schedule Monday morning.

More details are expected to be released later.
