The Chicago Police Department has confirmed a 30-year-old officer has been shot and killed during the early morning hours on Sunday in Gage Park. They also confirmed the suspect stole the officer’s vehicle and is on the run.
According to NBC Chicago, police confirmed the officer was still in uniform and the shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Police have not determined or released any details surrounding the deadly shooting. They haven’t released the identity of the officer saying only it was a male who is survived by a mother and uncle and that, “just a great officer, a great human being,” per Supt. Larry Snelling.
Police say they are investigating the incident as quickly as possible and will release more information about the suspect as they receive it.
