An Arkansas police officer was lucky to be armed and alert, after he and his children were nearly shot by a man who had “pre-planned” to attack them.
Beebe Police Officer Andrew Napolitano was just starting the day on July 18, putting his two kids in the back of his squad car for a quick drop-off at school before starting his shift.
As he prepared to depart, he noticed a pickup truck parked close to his vehicle, with 22-year-old Cody Ramsey loitering behind the wheel. When Napolitano inquired as to why Ramsey was there, the situation devolved into Ramsey pointing a handgun at Napolitano’s face- right in front of his children.
Drawing quickly, Napolitano ordered Ramsey to drop the weapon and get out of the vehicle. Despite complying with both orders, Ramsey attacked the officer.
“Upon exiting the vehicle, Ramsey physically attacked Officer Napolitano by striking him in the facial area numerous times,” read a social media post by the Beebe Police Department. “A citizen witnessed the encounter and rushed over to assist Officer Napolitano. During the course of the encounter the citizen suffered minor injuries.”
Ramsey continued to struggle, but was ultimately subdued when backup officers arrived.
According the the Beebe Police, Ramsey admitted to pre-planning the attack and was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Battery in the second degree on a law enforcement officer and one count of carrying a weapon.
