An officer and man were both wounded by gunfire after the suspect began shooting at the health systems police officer inside a Laurens County hospital.

According to WYFF, the suspect came into the hospital for treatment when he saw the officer, drew a gun, and started firing at him while trying to flee.

The officer returned fire and both were hit.

Witness dove for cover as the bullets flew.

A nurse grabbed a woman and her daughter, ran them both into the bathroom and locked the door until they knew it was safe.

Police are still investigating the shooting and have not given a motive.
