A Florida police K-9 in training has “bad boy” on his record after he attacked a Goldendoodle in a Seminole County animal hospital.
The incident reportedly took place at the Lake Emma Animal Hospital, where an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois by the name of K-9 Rex was being temporarily boarded while his Lake Mary Police handler was out of town.
Surveillance video shows that Rex was able to open the latch on a gate, allowing him to leave the confines of his kennel and bite Milo, a Goldendoodle.
Once Rex latched on, he had no interest in letting go of Milo and continued to do so until he was sprayed with a hose.
Milo was initially reported to be uninjured until a second examination revealed a single puncture wound on his neck.
According to Click Orlando, Milo was patched up and is reportedly in good spirits. The animal hospital told reporters that Rex was a “first time boarder” and they were “unaware that he knew how to open gates.”
Lake Mary Police representatives said Rex has only been on the force for a month and is still in training. Despite an embarrassing slight on his record, Rex’s job status is unthreatened and he will remain with LMPD.
It is unknown what K-9 Rex saw Milo do prior to engaging, or if Milo was wanted on some sort of canine warrant that humans are unaware of.
