A cadet training to be a Georgia State Trooper died after a training exercise, officials say.
Trooper cadet Patrick Dupree collapsed after completing a Sept. 8 exercise at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Medical staff on site attempted lifesaving measures before Dupree was transported to a hospital, where he died.
Dupree previously served as an officer at the Euharlee Police Department from 2015-2021, a Facebook post from the City of Euharlee says.
“He was dedicated to this community and made a lasting impact on Euharlee,” the post reads.
Officials have not shared further details about Dupree, but he was a father and husband, according to a tweet from Gov. Brian Kemp.
“His willingness to serve and desire to protect his fellow Georgians will not be forgotten,” Kemp wrote.
Dupree’s aunt, Phyllis Dodson, shared a message about his passing on Facebook, saying that he “was a loving person and was loved by everyone.”
“My heart is completely broken into pieces. Please pray for me,” Dodson wrote. “This is heartbreaking.”
Forsyth is about 60 miles southeast of Atlanta.
