A self-proclaimed “sovereign citizen” from Miami, must serve 485 years in prison for repeatedly raping a 16-year-old and forcing her to cut herself as a form of punishment.
Earlier this month, a Miami Circuit judge handed down the stiffest sentence for E-Yage Bowens, a 40-year-old salesman who insisted he was immune from U.S. laws, according to msn.com. Jurors took less than three hours to convict Bowens of sexual battery and child abuse.
Bowens was arrested back in 2011, after the victim told her mother he forced himself on her for months “for the purpose of teaching her how to connect through sexual energy with her future sexual partners.”
In May during trial, prosecutor Laura Adams told jurors that Bowens forced the teenaged victim — an honors student who is now college-bound — to cut her hands and feet, as punishment for disobeying him.
Over the years, Bowens reportedly filed an assortment of handwritten lawsuits against attorneys and judges involved in his criminal case. He wrote in one, “I do not now nor have I ever lived in the United States. Nor do I have any intentions of doing so in the future.”
None of those lawsuits ever went anywhere.
According to Southern Poverty Law Center, “The strange subculture of the sovereign citizens movement, whose adherents hold truly bizarre, complex antigovernment beliefs, has been growing at a fast pace since the late 2000s.” Sovereigns believe they get to decide which laws to obey and which to ignore — not judges, juries, law enforcement or elected officials.
i don’t understand some people this guy needs to be in jail.. i think the “Judge” didnt give him enough time for that disgusting act…now with that being said…what in the hell is a ‘Sovereign Citizen’ that makes no sense its either you’re a slave or not..if your a slave you’re a “CITIZEN” under the 14th amendment..and if your a Sovereign its the same as saying your a ‘private citizen’ you’re a ‘freeman’..subject to no one as long as you don’t cause injury to the person Property, or breach of Contract now thats how you commit a crime…so for anyone take a look in the mirror and ask yourself .. who’s the real criminal?
