A self-proclaimed explosives experts and sovereign citizen was arrested in Slidell, Louisiana after resisting arrest during a traffic stop last week.
Police say 54-year-old James Webb of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi refused to produce his driver’s license and registration, after being stopped for numerous traffic infractions.
Instead, they say, he asked for the officers’ names and badge numbers and even after they provided that information, Webb reportedly still refused to show the cops his documentation.
According to the New Orleans Advocate, Webb “took out a small notepad and wrote he was a ‘free traveler’, and not required to give the officers any information because they did not have legal authority over him.”
When the officers noticed Webb reaching for a bag sitting next to him in the front seat, they ordered him to get out of the car — fearing he had a weapon inside.
They later learned that he had a loaded handgun inside the vehicle, a Slidell police news release stated.
Police struggled with Webb briefly after he tried rolling up his window, when the officers asked him to exit the vehicle. He was taken into custody without any further incident.
