A Florida man was arrested Wednesday after getting into a six-hour hostage standoff with police that only ended after he fell asleep during the incident.

According to NBC-2, 34-year-old Derrick Walden reportedly got into an argument with a woman on the night of May 18th, prompting her to call 911 after he produced a firearm.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect held the woman hostage inside of his apartment, making several threats to shoot the officers.

Several hours into the tense standoff, Walden released the woman and returned to his apartment. By 3 AM, officers realized he had fallen asleep and entered the apartment, taking Walden into custody.

Walden was booked into the Lee County Jail and has been charged with felony battery, misdemeanor battery, domestic violence (strangulation), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and probation violation.
