Roughly 500 workers at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office had been seeking $6 million in damages because they believe Sheriff Ted Jackson didn’t pay them overtime, vacation and holiday pay.
According to a Law.com article, a federal judge has tossed that class action lawsuit out of court.
The workers claimed Sheriff Jackson took unused vacation and holiday and rolled it over into sick time. That time is not paid out if an employee decides to leave or retire from the Sheriff’s Office.
The workers, from deputies to a custodial worker, say Jackson made the executive decision to hid the pay.
The judge threw the lawsuit out because it cited the county as the defendant, not the sheriff.
