Sheriff’s deputy killed by a suspect during a foot chase in Maryland

Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office

A law enforcement agency in Maryland is investigating a fatal shooting that took place following a foot chase of a wanted fugitive.

Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Deputy First Class Glenn Hilliard was killed while pursuing a suspect on Sunday night.

Hilliard was on patrol when he spotted a wanted felon leaving an apartment complex.

During the pursuit, Hilliard was fatally shot by the suspect.

“The days ahead will be challenging, but for now, we are mourning the loss of an incredible human being,” the WCSO wrote on social media. “Deputy Glenn Hilliard was a son, a husband and a father to three beautiful children, a brother to those he worked with, and an exemplary public servant to the citizens of Wicomico County and to the State of Maryland. Our hearts and prayers go out to Glenn’s family during this difficult time.”

According to WBALTV, a suspect by the name of Austin Davidson was taken in for questioning.

Police have been scant on details, but local agencies have been supportive of the WCSO.

“Thoughts and prayers are with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department after one of their fellow deputies was shot,” the Baltimore County Police wrote in a tweet.
