Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is warning people planning on camping or hiking in the southern Arizona county of Mexican drug cartel assassins operating in the area.
According to Sheriff Babeu, people staying or traveling in the western parts of the county should be extremely careful and consider carrying a firearm if they are in any wilderness areas, according to ABC 15.
In a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office, Babeu stated to media that, “Mexican Cartel hit-men/assassins are being sent into Arizona to safeguard their drug smuggling from Rip-Crews. Three separate incidents in recent months involving rip-crews and smugglers have occurred nearby and further intelligence leads us to believe it’s heating up. This presents an increased threat to US Law Enforcement and citizens. Sheriff Babeu encouraged citizens to be armed if they travel in these areas, to ensure their safety.”
“I am concerned that when these cartel hitmen have armed confrontations with the rip crews in the deserts of Pinal County, innocent Americans and my deputies are going to be injured or killed,” the Sheriff warned according to the report.
