A takedown by a Florida School Resource Officer (SRO) at a Land O’ Lakes high school has prompted bodycam footage to be released in response to viral footage that only showed part of the incident.

To individuals who take the previously-released snippet of footage, the incident plays out as such: a member of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office slams a girl to the floor in a cafeteria before cuffing her and cursing at her, all to the “live audience”-esque “oohs” and “ahhs” of the other students.

In reality, the female student had been skipping class and was ordered to be remove. When repeatedly asked by the deputy to exit the cafeteria, the female student refused.

“You actually see him walking out there. He was trying to remove her from the situation,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said. “He was trying to remove her because she was being disruptive and all the other students around there were starting to be disruptive. But she wouldn’t comply.”

When an attempt was made to peaceably remove her, the young woman raised her arm in a striking motion, prompting the officer to use less-lethal grappling moves to subdue her and take her into custody.

The Sheriff said his deputy had to make a split-second decision and that the agency will stand behind the deputy.

“I think his conduct was above and beyond,” Nocco told the Tampa Bay Times, adding that the Deputy could have deployed devices such as spray, baton or a Taser instead- a much less desirable outcome.

The Pasco School District has declined to comment.

“It’s a law enforcement issue…We need to let the investigation run its course,” district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.

  1. All smart mouthed, defiant and in charge…until she wasn’t. When you can’t be civil in society, it is time for a time out. She seemed to have a return to reality and gain perspective after that excellent take-down. Kudos to the SRO. Hope her parents are as supportive and this gal learns her lesson before she gets herself into deeper trouble.

  2. What the Hell is wrong with kids and teens these days? They think they can act out in any manner they please and that there are no consequences. When I was in high school in the late 70’s through 81′ you respected all staff at the school even if it was the lunch lady. Seeing this is more sad than anything. Respect is a word that could darn near be removed from the dictionary. What brought about these changes in the way young people act these days?
