An intruder who attempted to break into a DC-based FOX affiliate station on Monday was shot in the chest by a female armed security guard.
DC Police said that 38-year-old George Odemns attempted to break into the facility by forcing his way through the glass doors around 3:07 PM, and that the man had a history of threatening both police and FOX executives.
When the security guards told Odemns to stop, he failed to heed her orders. After pepper spray failed to stop him, he was subsequently shot once in the chest.
According to FOX5DC, Odemns was taken to a hospital and is now in critical, but stable condition. He was charged with second-degree burglary.
One of the guards told reporters that multiple attempts were made to stop him before they opened fire.
“He thought we were females and it wasn’t going to get handled. … But it did,” the security guard said.
It is unknown why Odemns wanted to get into the building so badly, and the shooting is expected to be ruled as “justified.”
