We’re learning more about the security guard at the STEM school in Highlands County Colorado.
He has been identified as Marine veteran Marine Shamson Sundara, who has been at the school since the beginning of the year.
According to CBS4, Sundara ran towards the “active shooter” situation, fired his weapon during the chaotic scene, and was able to detain one of the shooters.
There is an investigation into who Sundara was targeting when he fired his weapon.
At least one Douglas County sheriff’s deputy said he believed Sundara shot a round at him as Sundara was entering the building.
His private security employer has called Sundara a hero and dismissed any notion of a possible ‘friendly fire’ incident.
Prior to working at the school, Sundara was in the Marine Corps from 2008-2012.
He was even a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy after leaving the Marines.
