A laptop computer containing sensitive information -including the floor plans to Trump Tower and information about the Clinton email investigation- was stolen from a female Secret Service Agent’s vehicle in New York after she failed to lock the door.
While the Secret Service insignia-clad bag it was in has been recovered, authorities have been on the hunt for the laptop since it was stolen Thursday morning.
In addition to the stolen laptop, sensitive documents were taken as well.
The heist took place when a their stepped out of what was possibly an Uber and stole the laptop from the agent’s unlocked vehicle, which was parked outside of her home.
The thief was seen walking away from the scene with a backpack.
The agent told investigators that while there was nothing about any American or foreign leaders on the laptop, though the information could compromise national security. In addition, she reported her access key card and several “sensitive” documents missing.
“The Secret Service is very heavily involved and, citing national security, there’s very little we have on our side,” an NYPD police source told the New York Daily News. “It’s a very big deal. There’s data on there that’s highly sensitive. They’re scrambling like mad.”
