A Scottish policeman is in hot water after negligently discharging his service weapon at the Edinburgh Police HQ on Sunday, ultimately resulting in the officer being temporarily removed from the special firearms unit.

The officer’s weapon -reportedly believed to be a Heckler and Koch G36 rifle- discharged at the station, though no injuries were reported.

The weapon reportedly was negligently discharged in the armory. One individual who witnessed the event took the incident to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

Following the incident, the officer was deemed “negligent” in causing a preventable situation and was immediately taken off of the firearms unit for re-training.

According to Scotsman.com,  a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the incident.

“No one was injured during this incident,” the spokesman said. “It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
