A San Antonio man received 10 years of jail time after pleading guilty to a felony charge connected to sexual conduct with a horse, according to the city’s animal care services department.

Jean Marie Bugoma, 25, was given the sentence during proceedings in the 379th District Court on Wednesday, June 29, according to a news release from ACS. He was initially charged with multiple counts of burglary and bestiality in connection to a January 2021 case at an equine boarding facility.

A number of animals were injured in the attack which occurred after Bugoma broke into a stable to have sexual relations with several horses, ACS stated in the release.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained from KSAT in April 2021, surveillance videos caught a man fitting Bugoma’s descrioption walking around naked in the stables a day before horses were found injured. In that incident, the owner noticed items out of place, a horse was out of its stall, and two horses had sustained injuries. A veterinarian was called and determined that the horses were sexually and physically assaulted.

A similar incident occurred on January 7. Multiple horses were found “hobbled,” meaning their legs were tied together, and the suspect committed bestiality, the affidavit states.

DNA was taken from the horses, which was later matched to DNA samples SAPD took from Bugoma, according to the arrest affidavit. The affidavit adds that the horses may have also been assaulted with an “unknown object.”
