A retired US Army colonel in Alabama was injured during a violent encounter with an undocumented alien over a Facebook Marketplace transaction.
Authorities are investigating and charges have been filed against the suspect.
The altercation occurred on Sunday in Cullman County when 64-year-old Glenn Gildon met with 21-year-old Abel Medardo Sacrab-Chen to purchase a dump trailer.
The deal had been arranged through Facebook Marketplace.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry later confirmed that Sacrab-Chen had entered the US illegally about two years ago.
“I’m angry that this is even something we’re having to talk about,” Sheriff Gentry said during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Gentry expressed frustration that someone who crossed the border illegally was now involved in a violent crime within their community.
The events unfolded after Gildon met Sacrab-Chen around 5:30 PM.
The two were supposed to finalize the sale of the trailer on Brunner Street, but Sacrab-Chen claimed the trailer was at another location and they would need to drive there.
While Gildon sensed something was off, he continued with the plan.
While driving, Sacrab-Chen suddenly pulled a knife and threatened Gildon, demanding money.
Acting quickly, Gildon managed to shoot Sacrab-Chen until his firearm suffered a malfunction.
Sacrab-Chen took possession of the weapon, cleared the malfunction and shot Gildon multiple times.
Gildon was hit in the stomach, shoulder, and leg during the attack. Despite the severity of his injuries, Gildon later posted about the ordeal on Facebook, thanking God for saving his life.
Law enforcement responded quickly after receiving reports of the shooting, which took place near County Road 463.
Several passersby had already stopped to assist Gildon, and police soon located Sacrab-Chen in Gildon’s truck.
Sacrab-Chen, who had been shot at least once, was taken into custody without much of a fight.
